CREATING AND EXPANDING ART COLLECTIONS

Creating or expanding art collections is an exciting process that combines multiple aspects: most importantly,  each collection, from its core, is a cultural world of aesthetic choices even before economic speculation.

First, the role of an art consultant is increasingly important because of the transformation of the modern and contemporary art market from niche trade to a globalized operation worth about $ 50 billion a year.

 Many changes have happened.

“The development of auction houses in globalized companies, mega-dealers and intermediaries, the “new frontier”of art sales on the Internet, the radical changes in the profile of art collectors, the phenomenon of the “branded” artist and the explosion of art fairs, the negative side of the expansion of the art market, in particular its lack of transparency and regulation”(G.Adam).

PURCHASE AND SALES OF WORKS OF ART

My role is to provide a personalized service that best meets the needs of each collector, offering consulting services for evaluations, transactions for either individual or  corporate collectors  and market orientation about  emerging or established artists.

It is important to explore each client’s preferences and aesthetic motivations to  either acquire or expand an existing collection, whether assisting a client  with a first purchase or  collectors, in order to find the right works for an existing collection.

Most importantly, through consultations and meetings with each client, we decide together strategies to guide the choices through every aspect of the complex but fascinating process.

1-ACQUISITION OF WORKS OF ART

Services include:

Meeting with the client to determine his artistic preferences;

Analysis / focus on an artist or art market segment

Research in international markets and search for suitable works of art

Display pre-sale of works of art for the client

Due diligence on authenticity, attribution, provenance and condition reports (extremely important)

Formal representation as client consultant in private transactions

Price negotiation on behalf of the client in private sales

Coordination of shipping, installation and possible storage …

NB As for the collections, I continue to catalog and photograph the works of art, in order to maintain a precise inventory.

Loans: often an option for collectors is also to exhibit some of their works in a museum and then increase their value. There is the possibility of putting collectors in touch with museums for exhibition loans.

2- SALE OF WORKS OF ART :

With customers who want to sell collections or individual works, I  analyze the value of a work of art and decide on the best way to generate the greatest possible revenue.

Services include:

Coordinate the initial evaluation of the collection and / or the artwork

Review of the auction house and gallery proposals

Negotiate the most advantageous terms and marketing strategies
